MEXICO CITY — Cheese manufacturers reacted angrily Wednesday to the Mexican government’s decision to stop the supply of several products of leading manufacturers to get a plethora of alleged labeling offenses.
By way of instance, the department detained the Philadelphia brand of labeling “reduced fat” on a single slice American cheese merchandise. Other manufacturers were mentioned for allegedly deceptive labeling of products that contain ingredients aside from selling or milk underweight packages.
Producers said they were not cautioned or allowed to defend themselves.
“The government can’t go around damaging businesses and impacting jobs by stigmatizing that a business or product using a baseless statement,” the Mexican Employers’ Federation said in a statement.
The Economy Department said late Tuesday that several 23 products were “trapped” — they could not be sold — to get a selection of supposed infractions like promoting bundles that shortchanged clients on that comprised ingredients apart from milk but did not make that clear labels.
Some manufacturers did not signify casein in their labels, and also two brands comprised vegetable fat, ” the department stated.
Mondelez International, which works the Philadelphia brand, worried in its own Twitter accounts the arrangement didn’t apply to its cream cheese, which is now a staple in Mexico for meals which range from sandwiches to sushi rolls.
It said the movement” confused and surprised our firm, provided it is completely baseless and damages the reputation of our new,” adding that”government didn’t notify our firm promptly about the analysis.” The business said a government customer protection laboratory had affirmed that the product’s quality.
The purchase also covered several goods from top manufacturers such as Fud, Nochebuena, Zwan, and Sargento
