China jails Two for Concealing Excursion to Town at Heart of outbreak

BEIJING — Two individuals who returned to their hometown after hammering the coronavirus from the Chinese town in the middle of this epidemic in January have been sentenced to jail for failing to quarantine themselves or report that the trip.

After arriving from Wuhan, the group saw supermarkets and other public areas in the western town of Yibin at Sichuan province for over a week before showing symptoms, the People’s Court of Cupping District at Yibin stated Saturday on its social networking accounts.

It stated one suspect, identified only by the surname Deng, hid the Wuhan excursion when contested by wellness employees.

The court stated 306 individuals who had contact with the group were isolated for monitoring but did not indicate if any was contaminated.

Deng was sentenced to 11 weeks on charges of blocking disease management, the court stated. Both phrases were postponed for 18 weeks.
