Dodgers 1st team to clinch playoff spot, Conquer Padres 7-5

While the Los Angeles Dodgers are regular participants at postseason baseball, there was something peculiar about getting the first group in the pandemic-shortened time to clinch a berth in the playoffs.

“It is different, I imagine. I only found out that five minutes ago,” director Dave Roberts stated in his movie news conference following the Dodgers beat the San Diego Padres 7-5 to take two in a matchup of the NL’s two leading teams.

The Dodgers opened a 3 1/2-match lead in their quest for an eighth consecutive NL West title by beating the Padres to its 2nd straight day.

“I am celebrating by stating I am proud of our guys and it was a fantastic show,” said Roberts, who grew up in northern San Diego County and played and was a mentor with the Padres before obtaining the Dodgers’ occupation. “I think it caught us by surprise as we were so focused on trying to win this collection. I believe the word will travel after we get on the airplane.”

San Diego, quieted by Dodgers pitching a 2nd straight game as it heads for its first playoff berth since winning the division in 2006, has dropped two straight for the first time because of mid-August.

May confirmed that within COVID-19 protocols, MLB does not want teams with uncontrolled clubhouse parties after clinching.

Asked when the Dodgers needed a party, he explained:

“No. We are not allowed to.”

But clinching a postseason place” is something which you grind to get the entire season,” he explained. “This year is different but we needed to grind at the quarantine zone, and that means you are going to feel super enthused “

In 35-15, the Dodgers breezed to the enlarged 16-team postseason area. Los Angeles is looking for its first World Series title since 1988, becoming dropped in the Fall Vintage under Roberts in 2017 and 2018.

San Diego, quieted by Dodgers pitching a 2nd straight game as it heads for its first playoff berth since winning the division in 2006, has dropped two straight for the first time because of mid-August.

“Now we just got beat in just about all areas, aspects of the sport,” rookie supervisor Jayce Tingler explained. “We did not play as blank as we’ve been defensive. Their men around on the mound, they have done a great job pitching, particularly the previous two days. It was fine to scrap and creep and fight back inside, but at the end of the day we got to too large a hole to conquer.”

May, who was scheduled to begin before Roberts decided to proceed with a bullpen afternoon, was the Dodgers’ third pitcher of the match. He traveled 5 1/3 innings and has been in control until Jurickson Profar homered to right field with two outs in the seventh to pull on the Padres into 7-3.

Following Profar’s homer, May struck Trent Grisham and hauled off some steam by crying several profanities that may be discovered around vacant Petco Park. Grisham angered the Dodgers by temporarily posing in the plate after homering away Clayton Kershaw at the Padres’ 7-2 win Monday night.

May let Manny Machado’s solo homer with one out in the eighth, his 14th, and has been raised by Roberts.

Until the seventh, May’d breezed through four innings by permitting just a single and a walk.

May stated he felt that his outing” was fairly solid. There were several miscues in my conclusion that ended up moving a fairly long way. Only location-wise, it was not where I wanted to these two pitches and they took good advantage of it”

Starter Brusdar Gasterol allowed a hit and a run in 1 1/3 innings until Adam Kolarek (3-0) allowed a hit and 2 walks at two-thirds of an inning.

Pedro Baez got the last two outs for his second save.

Pollock homered beyond the palm trees to the best of the batter’s eye in straightaway center field off beginner Adrian Morejon (2-1) with 2 outs in the next. This was his 11th. Taylor greeted Garrett Richards having a leadoff shot to the second deck in left-center leading off the sixth, his sixth, to get a 7-1 lead.

San Diego’s Fernando Tatis Jr., who has contemplated the NL MVP front-runner lately, went for 4 to prolong his slump to two for 27 more than eight matches. His average has fallen out of .314 to .281.

“I don’t think he is tired,” Tingler explained. “I believe last night that he missed a homer with a couple of feet, I believed that he squared three chunks up now. Regrettably, they were into the lanes that they had been enjoying. Only going through a tiny pocket, perhaps attempting to do too much sometimes. However, I think he is in a position to receive extremely hot for us down the stretch.”
