Perfume Manufacturer says cutting Black Celebrity from Advertisement Has Been misstep

NEW YORK — British cologne manufacturer Jo Malone has apologized to Dark celebrity John Boyega of”Star Wars” fame after cutting him from the Chinese variant of a perfume firm he helped produce.

Jo Malone London said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter the advertisement constructed for Chinese viewers proved to be a misstep and was eliminated. The recreated advertisement replaced Boyega with Chinese celebrity Liu Haoran.

“The idea for the movie was based on John’s encounters and shouldn’t have been duplicated,” it stated.

Boyega and his agents also could not be reached for comment.

The first advertisement starring Boyega aired last season and has been known as”The London Gent.” It sports the London-born celebrity walking around the area where he grew up and riding a horse at a playground, and it’s a reference to his fellow legacy in a spectacle featuring West African dress.

It is not the first time Boyega was deleted out of a China-based advertisement. He played a major role as Finn at 2015′s”Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” but he and other nonwhite characters were eliminated or diminished by a Chinese poster to the film.
