METAIRIE, La. — The New Orleans Saints Aren’t Likely to evacuate for Hurricane Delta at Wednesday night, a source told ESPN.
Together with the storm estimated to strike additional west Louisiana on Friday night, the Saints do not expect the necessity to relocate for training this week or for Monday night’s match against the Los Angeles Chargers at the Superdome.
Before Wednesday, sources affirmed the Saints and the NFL had made contingency plans to relocate to Indianapolis’ Lucas Oil Stadium when desired. The Colts play with the Browns at Cleveland on Sunday.
The Saints’ contingency plans have been first reported by The Athletic.
The NFL usually has weather-related contingency plans set up for matches — because it did to its new California wildfires, for instance.
“We shall continue to track developments in the region and stay in touch with all the nightclubs,” league spokesman Brian McCarthy said. “We have contingency plans for many games.”
