Reward Place as Atlanta police seek suspect in actor’s death

ATLANTA — Authorities are offering a $10,000 reward because they continue to hunt for the individual who shot celebrity Thomas Jefferson Byrd at Atlanta.

Famous for his roles in Spike Lee movies, Byrd was discovered dead about 1:45 a.m. Saturday morning to the city’s southwest side. He was shot several times in the trunk.

Authorities haven’t identified a suspect in the 70-year-old celebrity’s shooting death or mentioned why it might have occurred.

Byrd was found shot near his house and died before he is taken into a hospital. Robert Calloway told WSB-TV he discovered Byrd at a lawn and hurried to a fire station for assistance. Calloway did not know Byrd.

“I believed he needed a wellness issue. He had been at the lawn,” Callaway said.

Byrd acted in movies such as”Clockers,” Chi-Raq,” Bamboozled,” He Got Game” and”Da Sweet Blood of Jesus.”

Police ask anyone with information to call them or Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477 or publish info online at www.StopCrimeATL.com.
